There comes a season in a woman’s life when she realizes that dreaming about the life she wants is only the beginning. At some point, she has to decide if she is willing to participate in building it.
I believe I am in my apply season.
Not the season of rushing. Not the season of proving. Not the season of announcing every seed before it has had time to grow.
A season of applying myself.
For years, I have prayed for the life I desire. A life filled with purpose, creativity, hospitality, meaningful work, beautiful moments, and the ability to pour into others. But I am learning that faith is not only believing God can do something. Sometimes faith looks like discipline. Sometimes faith looks like showing up when nobody is watching.
My faith in this season is in my discipline.
And that realization has changed everything.
Growing up, my daddy always believed in applying yourself. Those words were bigger than school or a job. They were about character. They were about giving your best, putting your hands to the work, and understanding that anything worth building requires effort.
“Apply yourself.”
Those words have stayed with me.
Now, as a woman creating the life I have prayed for, I understand those words differently. Applying myself means being intentional. It means honoring my commitments. It means learning patience. It means understanding that the woman I am becoming requires consistency from the woman I am today.
This is the part nobody really talks about.
The quiet season.
The season where you are working on things nobody can see yet. The season where the dream is still underground. The season where you are planting, watering, and trusting that something is happening beneath the surface.
And honestly? I think that is where the crockpot comes in.
A crockpot is not rushed.
You prepare the ingredients. You season them. You put the lid on. Then you let time do what time does.
Nobody checks the crockpot every ten minutes asking, “Is it ready yet?”
Because we understand that some things need time.
Some flavors only develop because they were allowed to simmer.
I am learning that my life is the same way.
I do not want to rush into the next chapter and miss the beauty of this one. I do not want to build something amazing while neglecting the woman who has to live inside of it.
So this season looks like scheduling rest.
Scheduling peace.
Being intentional with my time.
Being disciplined with my choices.
Taking care of the foundation before I start adding more rooms to the house.
Because what good is the dream if I am too exhausted to enjoy it?
I think about all the women who are also in their apply season.
The woman starting over.
The woman going back after putting herself last for years.
The woman building a business quietly.
The woman healing.
The woman learning to believe in herself again.
The woman who has a dream she has not shared with anyone yet.
I want you to know this:
Quiet does not mean nothing is happening.
Slow does not mean you are behind.
Preparation is still progress.
Some seasons are not meant for a spotlight. Some seasons are meant for roots.
This is my crockpot season.
This is the season where I trust the recipe. I trust the timing. I trust that the work I am putting in today will create something beautiful tomorrow.
I am not rushing the process.
I am applying myself.
And I am letting it simmer.
Because the best things in life are worth the wait.
